Downtown Medford’s Main Street redesign is locked in: two travel lanes, angled and parallel parking, a bike lane, and about 40 new parking spaces, for roughly $1.2 million. Construction runs into fall 2026.
Josephine County commissioners are weighing removal of the Murphy Diversion Dam, working with the local irrigation district on alternatives that keep irrigation service intact. Rural owners with water rights on that system should watch this one.

Grants Pass’s 1930s water treatment plant sits in a 500-year floodplain with known seismic vulnerabilities. Its $50 million FEMA replacement grant was cancelled this spring; Senator Wyden has since pushed for a waiver, and the city’s outlook has turned more optimistic.
Grants Pass closed its 6th and A Street resting site this month as Parker’s Place Village passed 124 residents, part of the city’s move to close downtown camps as shelter capacity comes online.
Fire season started May 15 across Jackson and Josephine counties, and Grants Pass raised its fire danger level in mid-June. Forecasts call for above-normal heat and below-normal rain through October, so handle defensible space and insurance now.
